Our mutual
friend Major Powell
informs me that you
will kindly give
me some instructions
and advice regarding
the Iroquois Indians
as he is anxious
I should prepare a
paper for the meeting
in August and
the subject is one
in which I am
greatly interested
I am obliged

to go to my old home
in Syracuse next
week and while
there am anxious to
visit the Onondaga
Reservation-Can
you give me any
suggestions regarding
it?-I suppose you
have visited it-
and could I gleam
any information
there concerning
the "Folk lore"?-
If you are not too much

to leave on Thursday
